Western Kentucky
known as the Lakes Region in the state is rich with outdoor recreation
opportunities. Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park, Kenlake State
Resort Park, Barkley Lake State Resort Park, and Mineral Mounds State Park
are some of the finest in the Kentucky State Park system.
Each of these parks are home to golf courses that will challenge
the most avid golfer. Land
between the Lakes (LBL) offers fishing, hunting, hiking, nature study,
camping, mountain biking and miscellaneous programs.
The lakes provide swimming, fishing, skiing, and pleasure boating
opportunities. Municipal
recreational facilities are operated by the cities of Benton, Calvert
City, Hardin and Marshall County. Tennis courts, basketball courts,
baseball/softball and soccer fields are available in Benton, Calvert City,
Draffenville, and Hardin parks. Kenlake State park also hosts an indoor
tennis facility. There are many community festivals that are celebrated throughout the year, such as the American Quilters Show, Barbeque on the River, Tater Day, Ameribration Celebration, Pisgah Bay Drag Boat Racing, Hot August Blues Festival, Paducah Summer Festival, Freedomfest, Aurora Country Festival, Cadiz Ham Festival. If you are interested
in seeing the superstars of college and professional basketball of
tomorrow, they will play at Hoopfest. USA Today reported Marshall
County High School's Reed Condor Memorial Gymnasium as one the best six in
the nation for watching high school basketball. It is a sell out
seating of 6,000. If division 1A basketball is more to your taste,
Ohio Valley Champions Murray State University is within 25 miles. |
Largemouth
Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Black Crappie, White Crappie, Bluegill, White Bass,
Rockfish “Striper”, and Catfish will keep your line tight and your
stringers full. Maybe that is
why Kentucky Lake hosts so many fishing tournaments which include the Wal-mart
FLW Tour and Crappie USA Tournament.
As a matter of fact FLW Outdoors is headquartered jsut a few miles
from Sassyland.
